Empowering women through rice and everything rice makes possible.
Eastern and West Nile regions. Over 100 women’s groups. One aim: turn subsistence plots into businesses that feed families and pay school fees.
The problem we found
Fertile land, hard work and thin returns. Women faced poor agronomic practice, no storage, no processing, and a single buyer at the garden gate: the middleman, naming his price.
Meanwhile Karamoja, a day’s journey away, goes hungry for staples its neighbours could supply. The mismatch is logistical, not natural.
What changes
- Large-scale rice cultivation by organised women’s groups
- Collective bulking, processing and marketing a local mill that keeps value in the village
- Fair, negotiated prices instead of take-it-or-leave-it offers
- Direct supply toward Karamoja’s underserved markets
